Application:
OXYTRANS is a highly accurate optical oxygen sensor for measuring O2 in degassed water, wort, beer, and CO2. Oxygen has adverse effects on flavor stability and shelf life.
OXYTRANS TR - O₂ measurement (optical; in-line)
OXYTRANS is ideally suited for the continuous measurement of dissolved oxygen in liquids and gases. The instrument is designed for applications requiring maximum sensitivity and the highest accuracy. It is easy to use and virtually maintenance-free. Electrolyte solutions are not required, and no oxygen is consumed during measurement. The optical measurement technology is based on the luminescence quenching effect, i.e., the non-radiative transfer of excitation energy through molecular interaction. A small glass component containing a thin layer of indicator molecules, the optical window, is integrated into the measuring head. The indicator molecules are irradiated with blue-green light generated by an LED in the oxygen sensor. They absorb the incident light and are excited to a higher energy state. After a certain time, the molecules convert back to their ground state, emitting red light. This red light is detected by the sensor. If O₂ molecules are present, the energy is transferred from the excited indicator molecules to the oxygen. This molecular interaction results in the excitation energy being transferred non-radiatively. The detected signal decreases with increasing concentration of oxygen molecules in the product. Other gases do not absorb this energy and therefore have no influence on the measurement result. Temperature drifts of the measurement signal are automatically compensated for by an internal Pt100 sensor.
